Created from his own imagination, Urville is a futuristic city landscape from the mind of Gilles Trehin, a young Frenchman with autistic savant abilities. Clearly he does find inspiration from outside sources but the act of drawing is not done using any pictures. I find his drawings and art hugely inspiring, they are so detailed and expansive it’s hard not to imagine being in it. He has even created a backstory and history behind it all, adding even more depth.

Strangely enough, I have just visited a place called Auroville in Pondicherry, India. The first sketch is uncannily reminiscent of it.

Funny how things like that happen. I’ll see an obscure word I’ve never seen before then the same day or the next day I’ll see it again.
The human brain is organised to see patterns like this, salient things that we notice for one reason or another are very easy to construe as part of some mystical or fatalistic happening.
It always seems to be so. For better or worse I have a very scientific mind and therefore cannot buy into any mysticism.
And who knows? Maybe Gilles saw a picture of it and sublconsciously drew it. I’m over analysing..:)
