YOU KNOW that post you created yesterday, a week ago, month ago – hell, before WordPress even existed – like a future-knowing badass? And then you published that post? Well, you might have noticed that you seem to get less likes and comments on them.
And there’s a reason, not a good one, why that’s happening. For some inexplicable oversight on WordPress’ technical side, if you have a draft that you then finish and publish, it will publish as if you wrote it the day you created that first draft.
For example, if you wrote a blog post draft on July the 23rd 2018, finished up your masterpiece epic on why the earth is flat and published it today, as far as WordPress is concerned you wrote that on July 23rd and it will publish it to that effect instead of today, in effect meaning it’s far less likely anyone will see it apart from your regulars. New posts however go to the top of the queue in terms of posts within your category e.g. writing and have much higher visibility.
So make sure to copy paste into a new post THEN publish to avoid that happening. Like I nearly did with this post…
Helpful tip – merci, Fionn. ☺

Thank you. I’m new to the platform and this article was of great help. I, for one, will be taking that advice.

Thanks for the tip, Fionn! I didn’t know that.
There are other quirks – for example when I developed my new site, I took followers with me but not ‘likes’.

You’re most welcome Andrew.
That’s a strange one on the likes vs followers.

I noticed this glitch long back; I had a habit of keeping 4-5 drafts and finishing them much (I still have a draft from 2015! :D). The good thing is that you can republish your post, if you feel it didn’t get its chance to shatter the earth and break the internet.

That’s true, but still annoying.
Clearly not high on the list of things to fix for WP

True. Maybe it’s fixed for paying users?

You’d think.
I haven’t spent 200 quid on the business package, but I wouldn’t be certain.

Well, how on earth did you unearth that jewel? I never knew of that glitch and that explains so many things. Thanks, Fionn.

I remember awhile back wondering why my post got hardly any interaction, then looked in the feed for writing or whatever category, and there was no sign of it.
Hope it gets you some more traffic!

So all my scheduled posts that were created months ago (to be consistent) will have the visibility of a month old post? That’s not cool. So I guess I should copy and paste the scheduled post an hour before WordPress does it for me. Thanks for the advice.

Scheduled posts might be different, but I wouldn’t bet on it, keep a track to see how things go.
The closer to the post time you set it up at the better 👍
