About this Lion

      lion-around cool

I’M THE MALE of the species from Scotland, where everyone owns a castle and pisses whisky. *Some of the preceding sentence may contain factual errors.*

I’ve been writing and reading for a long old time. I’m now trying to get into the published material side of things after studying psychology. I’m building up a bank of short story material, accumulating rejection slips, and finding my legs in the long story side of things; one book written, currently with unresponsive agents, and another finished in the process of editing.

Hold on..I need shortbread..that’s better..now where was I?

Like many writers I have written a vast amount of stuff and like children’s school meals, large portions remain unfinished. That isn’t the case so much anymore since I started being a bit more disciplined.

I write about all sorts, largely drawing my inspiration from real life events, comedy, tragedy, philosophy, psychology, futuristic musings and the dark recess of my mind. I say recess, it’s the only recess: it’s got to hold everything.

On a more serious note I love writing (ok – that’s probably already been established), lifting weights and learning. Writing/ reading is my sedentary downtime, going to the gym balances it out nicely and I can’t imagine not having the physical aspect. Exercise

twitter pic

really is addictive. I’ve included a photo (unprofessionally taken) and opened myself up to ridicule and wild recognition on the streets of Edinburgh (aye right!) so you can put a face to the writing and be assured this blog isn’t run by a cutting edge bot, although I’m sure it’d be better than me…at algorithms – creatively? – I’m not so sure.

Enjoy the blog and please comment, like, add and link me and share your work – after all, that’s what it’s all about.

Currently editing Down to Earth as I try to get book The Red Coffin published about my part in a journey around the world.

  5. Returning your like on my About. And I thank you. It’s made me realise it’s time for another update. Feast Fables in now in it’s 3rd Book; should conclude in June. Three and a half years! Mammoth. And Priory Project was completed last year, to be replaced by Alsalda (a Neolithic fantasy).
I appreciate the likes. From what I’ve seen I like yours too. Good luck your plans. Beware, it’ll either drive you into the arms of some good sport (interpret as will), or drive you nuts. Addictive stuff, this writing.

I have many unfinished projects as well. I figure if I write short stories, eventually it’ll lead me back to my major writings that have been set aside collecting dust.

    1. I find sometimes I’m in a SS mindset, frequently actually, and to a lesser extent in novel mode. Writing is a highly mood regulated thing for me.

  19. I’m guessing you’ve been at this for just over a year. My humble input is to keep at it. Years ago I toured Scotland by car, and had one of the best travels of my life. Never tried the haggis, but did have blood pudding for breakfast, if that counts.

Thanks for visiting my online writing studio, and opting to follow my work. I trust you will find it both interesting and helpful regarding your own work.

If you’ve any work on which you’d like my opinion, let me know.

I’ve been writing for some time but yes relatively new to the blogging scene.

And blood pudding definitely counts! It is a cousin of haggis 🙂 Scotland is a great place to drive as it is quite compact but lots to see – I plan a trip in September to go around the coast.

  21. Hi there. I love and follow your blog.

I was wondering if you would be interested in participating in a Blog Tour on the writing process. Long story short, you would answer 4 questions about what you’re writing and your writing process and then pass the torch onto 3 other writers. Let me know. Will send details if you’re interested. 😉

      1. Thanks for taking part!

        Dear Fellow writer:

I’ve been invited to join the #mywritingprocess blog tour and have accepted for the week of April 21. This tour rolls out across three new bloggers each time, so I am inviting you to carry the tour forward on your own blog the week of April 28.

The blog is simple. Follow the three steps below and post to your blog during the given week. Acknowledge the person who invited you — that’s me — and that the post is part of the #mywritingprocess blog tour. Answer the 4 questions provided below, and nominate three authors to follow with short bios and blog links for all.

First things first: Send me a short bio and your website/blog link. I’ll feature you on my blog, stating you’re next. If you don’t send a bio, I’ll make one up for you. I promise to be nice. (I did this myself due to time constraints. Will post mine this evening.)

Step One: Acknowledge the person and site that involved you in the blog tour. That’s me, Jennifer at http://jenniferkellandperry.wordpress.com/.

Step Two: Answer the 4 questions below about your writing process. (You can tweak them slightly if you want.)

        1) What am I working on?

        2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?

        3) Why do I write what I do?

        4) How does my writing process work?

Step Three: Say who is up next (your own chosen three). Give a bio and link to their websites. Their date will be the week of May 5.

Here’s an example of one that’s already been posted:

        http://www.erinalbertbooks.com/1/post/2013/10/my-writing-process-blog-tour.html

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again!

  30. I just read you collect baseball cards. If you still do I would be glad to mail you a few of my extras, mostly Allen and Ginter. Just send me your address by e-mail and I will do so, if you wish. I am glad someone out there is still collecting. Once you receive it send me some of your duplicates. My e-mail address is awax@tampabay.rr.com.

    1. Hey, I appreciate the offer. I did collect basketball cards and bought some Goodwin boxes a few years back but I don’t generally collect baseball cards, so wouldn’t have any to swap you sadly. In fact I generally can’t get sports cards here, it’s mostly all football (or soccer to you) so I stick to playing cards now.
I haven’t forgotten the story either, its on my desktop waiting for me, will try and read it over the weekend 😀

    1. Many thank yous. It cannot be a bad thing to write on multiple topics, nor a bad thing to be a master of one only. We write and that’s that, whatever results, is.

Is — – — some morse code? or just a keyboard idiosyncrasy?

  39. I love the name of your blog — it shows aggression and strength when it comes to such a sensitive art form (writing).

Would love to read your stories, so that you can change your description from “In the not too distant future I want to have finished a novel and had material on print where people other than my girlfriend can read it” without feeling guilty about lying.

And I would hate to piss whiskey. I have a feeling it could burn.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks 🙂

Without feeling guilty about lying? Didn’t catch your meaning.

And urinating whisky can be painful depending on what else you drink.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. If I read some of your stories, it would mean that another person other than your girlfriend has read your work, and so you can change that description without lying. Sorry, should’ve edited :p

BTW re. one of your earlier posts: I write to Bruch’s Violin Concerto I in G Minor, Michael Nyman, Enya, Leona Boyd, and Chopin, but most of the time I treasure silence.

    1. Glad to have you on board! I’ve been there but not had a fish supper. It’s funny, everyone has a place that’s ‘the best fish and chips’ or ‘best apple pie’ etc.
